Finally we can get somewhere!
Search for your search phrase in the database your team delegated in step 6. Your goal is to find one scholarly, peer-reviewed article for your topic.
Before you start, check your character's limitations below. If you are playing two characters, you adopt both limitations and need to find two articles. Have fun with that.
There is no workbook page for this step. Once you finish the activities below and find your article, keep the database page open for the next step.

General Joe
must use one of the first five results.

Quick Quincy
must use the "Full Text" filter to remove any results requiring interlibrary loan.

Academic Anne
must select a source without looking at article titles.

Judicious Julia
must look through the first five pages of results before selecting an article.

Specialist Sam
must apply at least three filters.
How many results did you get?
0: You forgot to tie your shoes!
Double check your spelling.
If everything is spelled correctly, reduce the number of your keywords.
If something isn't spelled correctly, fix it and try again.
<50: You fell into a pit!
Go back to your keyword list and find some terms you can add with OR to expand your results.
>5,000: You overshot a lot!
Go back to your keyword list and find some terms you can add with AND to narrow your results.
1,000 - 5,000: You overshot a little!
Take a look through the filters and find one or two that will narrow your results.
50 - 1,000: You may proceed.
Scan for good results. If none seem relevant, try again.
If they seem relevant or nearly relevant, continue on to the second page of results.
Find a scholarly article on the second or third page of results that will work for your topic. If there are none, you may backtrack to the first page or continue on to the third page.
Once you've selected an article for each of your characters, check to see if you are eligible for either of the side quests. Complete them if necessary, then move on to the next tab: Resources.
*If you finish this step before the rest of your team, you may help your teammates with their remaining tasks.

Open the pdf of your article and save it to your computer. If you're able to this, you escape and don't need to complete this side quest.
If there is no pdf, you have two options:
You can always bail and find an article that has a pdf available.
If there's no pdf available, you can always request the article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL is a free service that the library provides where the article is borrowed from another library and then loaned to you just like one of our articles.
Articles will usually be ready within 24 hours!
If this article sounds like one you'd like to read, continue on.
Chances are, in your hunt for a pdf you landed on a page that looks like Quick Search.
Under the "How to get it" section in the middle of the page, there's a link that says, "Request via Interlibrary Loan." Click that link!
If you don't see this link, go to the library's homepage and click the third dark blue button, "Interlibrary Loan."
Once you are in the ILL system, sign in. (Note! Your username does not include @etown.edu)
If this is your first time using ILL, it will ask you to enter some information.
Once you've set up the account, if you came through the Quick Search page, you should find your request form mostly filled in.
If you came through the library's homepage, click "New Requests" at the top of the page. Select "Article," then fill in the information.
Double check the information, then click "Submit Request" at the bottom of the page.
That's it! You'll get an email when the article arrives!

If your database has a blue bar across the top of the page and it says "My EBSCO" in the upper right, you must complete this side quest before you move on to the next tab. If your database doesn't have this feature, you escape.
Once you've selected an article, save it to the dashboard by clicking the bookmark icon. This icon should appear to the right on your results page, or at the top of the page with the article's details.
What is the warning that pops up in the upper right corner when you save the article? If you missed it, it will also appear at the top of the page in the next task.
Find the article in your dashboard in the left sidebar. Note the warning at the top of the page.
You can take this time to create an EBSCO account. Note that it isn't attached to your Etown account, and you will need to create a new account. You may skip this step if you wish to create an account later.
