College Newspaper Exercise

Read and discuss assigned Etown newspaper articles.

1. May 1, 1970, page 2, “Student Expectations."

2. September 30, 1994, page 3, “Senate explains fund distribution for clubs.”

 

Read your assigned article carefully on your own. Then, use the following questions to discuss the article with your peers:

a)    What is this article about? What is the issue or main idea?

b)    Who is the author? Is it a newspaper staff article or a letter to the editor? How does knowing the author affect your reading of the information?

c)    What kind of bias or opinion does the author reveal if any?

d)    What was going on nationally at this time? What was going on at the College?

  • Change to searching “Text contents.”
  • Put phrases like “black student” in quotes.
