Library Spaces & Collections: Accessibility

Expectations

Know what to expect before you come visit the library!

This guide details the types of spaces, collections, and seating options on each level of our building. It also lists the technology available to boost the accessibility of our services, as well as specific database features that do the same.

Research Services

Librarians are available on a drop-in basis at the reference desk, located just inside the entrance. You do not need an appointment.

Please know that a librarian at the reference desk’s primary responsibility is to answer questions. We are there to help you. That said, we don’t sit there twiddling our thumbs! We keep busy at the desk, so we will likely look busy. But you will not be interrupting when you drop-in, we’re there to answer your question first and foremost!

While not necessary, you can make an appointment to speak with a librarian. In-person meeting options are available at the public reference desk and in a private office; zoom meetings are available as well. Meet our librarians here.

Spaces

The library’s hours are posted on the library’s homepage. All four floors of the library are open to the public, but an Elizabethtown College ID card is needed to enter the building after 10:00 pm. You do not need to check-in upon entrance to the library.

There is an elevator in the library. Make a left after you enter the building. It will be on your left, just past the classroom.

See the floor directory for more details on library spaces.

Books and Physical Collections

The library’s physical collection are largely self-help and open to all readers. There’s a Map-It feature in Quick Search to indicate which shelf a book should be on. You may also ask a librarian for assistance with locating a book.

If you’d rather have the library pull a book for you and hold it for pickup at the circulation desk, use the request option in Quick Search. You'll need to sign into Quick Search to see that feature. It will appear on the item's page under "Get It."

Books need to be checked out at the circulation desk before leaving the library. Your Elizabethtown College ID card is your library card.

More information about our physical collections and borrowing policies can be found on our About the Library page.

Computers and Technology

The following devices can be checked out from the circulation desk:

  • Laptops
  • Charging Cables
  • Headphones
  • Computer Mice
  • iPads
  • DVD/CD External Drives
  • Swivl

The library also has desktop computers available to use on a drop-in basis. You can sign into the computer with your email username and password (do not use the @etown.edu portion of your email).

  • Nine computers are on the main level, make a left after you enter the building.
  • Four computers are downstairs on the silent floor, make a right after leaving the stairwell.
  • One of the computers on the main level is labeled for public use. Students may sign in to this computer normally. Members of the public need to check in at the circulation desk to get a temporary username and password.

The One Button Studio is a video recording space on the main level that includes a backdrop and camera setup. The room may be booked in advance or used on a drop-in basis.

For information about the software on our desktop computers and laptops, see the linked list on ITS's Computer Labs page.

Printing and Scanning

There are three print stations in the library. Tap your id to access the print queue where you can release your jobs. Black and white jobs can be sent to the printers through PaperCut. Color jobs must be sent from the library's computers to the printer HL100Mc.

  • One PaperCut print station is on the back wall near the desktop computers on the main level, make a left after you enter the building.
  • Another PaperCut print station is located one level up on the third floor, make a left after leaving the stairwell.
  • The color printer is also located near the desktop computers on the main level. It is a tall black printer and copy machine. You have the option to sign into this printer manually without your id.

There are two options for scanning and copying in the library.

  • The color printer is also a scanner and copier. After signing in to the printer, choose the option on the printer's screen to "Access Device" to find the scan and copy options. It will automatically send scans to your etown.edu email.
  • There is a scanner behind the reference desk along the back wall. It has multiple options for scanning and does not require a sign-in.

Databases

Most of our databases do support accessibility features, although it will vary by database. Check out these accessibility guides which cover the majority of our databases:

Supplies

Throughout the building there are rolling whiteboards, power supply towers, and personal tables that float between seating areas. Many tables have built in power, and you are also welcome to plug into wall outlets. Supplies can be requested at the circulation desk on the main level, and there are supply stations next to the stairwell on the other three levels.
