1812 Manumission Deed

Outerbridge Horsey, a U.S. Senator from Delaware from 1810 until 1821, signed a manumission deed on November 11, 1812, that emancipated 14 slaves over the course of 30 years. The slaves had been the property of Eliza Lee, whom Horsey married on April 16, 1812. To see the document along with a transcription, please click here. The original copy of the manumission deed is housed in the Hess Archives and Special Collections.
