FYS Adventure: Final Hunt

The Final Test

Congratulations, you've reached the end! Almost.

Step 11: Don't forget the books.

Each member of the team should use Quick Search to find two books, one print and one digital.

Add the titles to your workbook on the Final page.

eBook

In Quick Search, use the source type filter to select "Books." Then use the "Limit To" filter to select "Available online."

Choose any one of these books.

Add the title to your workbook. You can always find it again by searching for the title in Quick Search.*

*That tip works for articles too! If you don't remember where you found an article, try searching for it in Quick Search.

Print Book

Remove the "Available online" filter, then use the "Limit To" filter to select "Held by library."

(If you don't see this filter, we likely don't have a print book on this topic. Try a broader search, then filter again.)

Choose any one of these books.

Add the title and call number to your workbook. You can always find it again by searching for the title in Quick Search.

Side Quest! Book Hunter

Will you accept this side quest? If you've found your books in Quick Search and there are at least ten minutes left in class, this quest is for you!

Task 1: Call Number

Write down the call number for your print book. It will look something like this: Main Collection; Z4 .O895 2020

You might also want to take use the "Map it!" button to see which shelf the book is on.

Not sure how to read the call number? Check out this guide.

Task 2: Hunt

Find the book! Go out into the wilds of the rest of the library and bring back your book.

Call numbers A-L are on the top level, level 4. (Labeled M on the elevator.)

Call numbers M-Z are one level up from the classroom, level 3.

*Books that have a location of Juvenile are also on level 3.

*Books that have a location of Bestsellers or Display are on this level, level 2.

Task 3: Borrow

Bring the book and your ID to the circulation desk to check out the book, then bring it back into the classroom.

Side Quest! Overachiever

Have you completed everything and there's still time left in class? This quest is for you!

Task 1: Cite Your Books

Add your books to the group bibliography on the Resources tab.

A book citation looks like this:

Author's Last Name, Initials. (Year). Book title. Publisher.

Roach, M. (2010). Packing for Mars: The curious science of life in the void. W. W. Norton.

If it's an ebook, add the DOI or URL at the end.

Task 2: Oh CRAAP

You still have time left in class? Unfortunately for you, that means you also get to select one of your books to add to the CRAAP evaluation on the Report tab.

Task 3: Double CRAAP

Just kidding. You can now search for more resources for your presentation. Congratulations on being an overachiever! We love you the most! <3
