This guide has resources selected to support the James Baldwin exhibit in the High Library's IDEA Lab. Highlighting one of the great American writers and thinkers of the 20th century, the exhibit provides background on Baldwin's life and work with a focus on Baldwin's thoughts on the subject of racial inequity in America and his continued cultural relevance. It includes coverage of his involvement with the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950's and 60's; his influential book, The Fire Next Time (1963); and the intersection of queerness and race in his writing.
The exhibit also touches on themes from the award-winning 2016 documentary film on Baldwin, I Am Not Your Negro, which the High Library will screen for students, faculty, and staff on February 28 at 7 p.m. in the KAV.

The exhibit will run from February 1 - May 12, 2023.
Feel free to contact Josh Cohen, Instruction and Outreach Librarian, with questions.
